Does Pilot Gain Effect Stabilize Mode

Hello,

Ive put together a 5 thruster layout and powering it onshore with a undersized power supply. The PSU works fine for now while I am just playing around with controls and functionality but cant support all 5 thrusters pulling full power at once.

So when I tried out stabilize mode it blew the fuse on my power supply. I wont be getting a larger PSU for sometime but I still wanted to test motion with stabilize mode. Will lowering the Pilot Gain also affect stabilize mode? Intuitively I am thinking it should but I am all out of fuses to test with.

Cheers,

Hi @DuncanODL,

Nope - the pilot gain is applied as a scaling factor to the joystick inputs, so it doesn’t affect the autopilot’s control system outputs (like the one used for attitude stabilisation). You can read more about that (and alternative power reduction approaches) in the pilot control documentation

Note also that power supplies do not necessarily appreciate the back-EMF that’s generated when the ESCs brake a moving thruster, especially in air. You might want to consider adding a battery or power filter to absorb the current spike - as is discussed in this thread.
