Using PING360 on the Deep Trekker Pivot ROV

Hello everyone!

I’m new to the world of ROVs and I’ve been tasked with connecting a PING360 sonar to a Deep Trekker Pivot ROV.

After reading the documentation for both the sonar and the ROV, I still can’t get the sonar data to transmit to the PC when connecting the PC via Ethernet to the controller. I’ve configured the sonar according to the instructions: switched the connector to PL3 (Ethernet), and set it to UDP mode on the ROV, the sonar, and the PC but so far, no success.

When the sonar is connected directly to the PC, PingViewer recognizes it and acquires data without any problem, but when I connect the sonar → ROV → controller → PC, PingViewer does not recognize the sonar. Has anyone experienced this issue before or tried a similar setup?

Many thanks in advance!

AlexCM

Hi @AlexCM -

Welcome to the forums!

Sorry for the issue! Since it works fine when connected directly to your computer, it seems the ROV connection is the issue. Deep Trekker’s support is your best bet, as their vehicle isn’t open source, nor associated with Blue Robotics, so it’s tough to provide any useful advice! It may be worth checking that you’ve set the IP address of the sonar to whatever the Deep Trekker documentation says you’ll need…

Thank you very much Tony,

Everything points to a network conflict. I’ve also reached out to Deep Trekker’s support, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to be straightforward.

Thanks again for your quick reply, and I’ll let you know if I manage to find anything worth sharing.

Best regards.

Hi @AlexCM ,

I just found your post and am interested to hear if you resolved the networking issue? My lab is looking to test out a Ping360 on our existing Deep Trekker Revolution and I’m looking into how feasible this might be. Were you able to connect the Ping360 to existing ports on the Pivot? And then use the Deep Trekker bridge to communicate with it?

Hi @jetodd -

Welcome to the forums!

Note that the Ping360 (can be configured to) communicate via ethernet, so no “Deep Trekker bridge” should be required to communicate with it. As long as it is on the same ethernet network as your computer, and using a valid IP address for that network, you should be able to communicate with it! If you’re using the USB or RS485 communication mode, forwarding may be required?
