This is how I have improved the handling of my BluRov2. I used 2 professional joysticks with two potentiometers with a value of 5kohm. No changes in Xbox controller the pots are soldered in parallel with the ones in Xbox.
Nice work, but you are better off using Hall Effect joysticks for better linear control and centering.
