I just covered the wiring in another thread here:
If you’re having network issues make sure you’ve followed our Software Setup Guide. Once you’ve selected your operating system there will be relevant network setup information (e.g. here is the network setup section for Windows). Part of that includes allowing QGroundControl through your firewall, as @murf mentioned
