T500 inserts came out

Hello everyone,

I encountered an issue with my T500 thruster where the mounting inserts of core casing, has came off. It seems like the inserts have somehow come loose from the casing, and I’m looking for suggestions on how to properly fix or reattach them.

Has anyone else faced this issue? Would marine epoxy, threaded inserts, or a mechanical fix like screws or clamps be a better solution? I’d appreciate any advice on how to securely fix this without compromising the thruster’s integrity.

Looking forward to your insights!

Hi @Harshada -
I’m a bit confused by your terminology - which threads have failed? Are they the threaded inserts, 4 together on one side of the nozzle, used to mount the thruster?

Or are you talking about the screws that hold the nozzle onto the 4 arms, keeping the stator and rotor in the middle of the duct?

Can you share what was happening when the failure occurred? Pictures would be helpful!

Dear Tony,

I have attached images to provide a clearer understanding of the situation. Could you please suggest a suitable solution for this issue?

Looking forward to your guidance.

Hi @Harshada -
Unfortunately the T500 is not intended to be mounted by those threaded holes - they are intended to hold on the nose cone! I’ve used them to mount the motor as you have, however when doing so it is important to limit the maximum throttle in reverse, to avoid the threaded inserts pulling free as they have for you. Additionally, limiting the slew rate, or the ability for the motor to abruptly reverse forward thrust may help.
You may be able to use a press to push the inserts back in, but even with a bit of glue used to hold it in I would expect the problem to remain. Fundamentally changing the way you control the motor, or mounting it by the threaded holes on the nozzle are your best beet for continued usage without issues!
