Ping360 inconsistent since switching from Ethernet to USB

I have been running a Ping360 on ethernet for a couple of years. I have now changed to USB (changed cable in head etc), and the Ping360 has become very inconsistent on whether it’ll work or not, and/or when it works or not.

The unit shows up on ‘Ping Sonar Devices’ in BlueOS, but whether it shows on Pingviewer is the issue. I have also had many dives where the Ping will be working fine, then it simply stops working. In this instance, going into Pingviewer2 it shows an error. If I delete the device, then more often than not, it will come back online within 5 mins, until it develops another error.

Addiitonal video showing some of the occasional lag in the sweep, as well as the error in Pingviewer.

Hi @3dMB,

Have you tried running with the original Ping Viewer application (not the BlueOS Extension)? Just wondering if this is a device issue or a software issue.

More generally, there are some in progress improvements to the Extension that should help connectivity robustness (this one included), but others in the software team will look more into it, especially if this turns out to be a problem with the Extension.

If it’s also happening with the original Ping Viewer, please report the problem to our support team

Hi, Marcus!

Like @EliotBR said, it’d help us a lot in debugging the issue if you could try it out in the old application and tell us if it behaves differently.

I’ve noticed the issues with USB myself and I’ve been working on making the connection more stable, while also making errors more descriptive. The updates should land on Ping Viewer Next soon-ish!

@EliotBR Ping Viewer stand alone desktop program doesn’t even see the P360. I assumed that as there was a Pingviewer 2, that the original has been retired. It was also not showing on Cerulean Sonarview.

@EpicEric - see above.

I have moved some things around and put it back on ethernet for now.

Will any logs assist you?

Is that when the Ping360 is plugged directly into the computer running Ping Viewer, or when it’s connected to the vehicle (or both)?

Does it work if you disable the Ping Viewer 2 Extension? (And does it show up in the Ping Sonar Devices service in BlueOS?)

Ping Viewer 2 is still only available in beta versions, and has no documentation - the original one is still considered the official one for now

That said, our development efforts are primarily focused around the new one (with only critical support fixes being added to the old one), and we hope to at least officially release the new one as stable quite soon, though I believe the standalone variant of it is a bit further away, so it won’t be a full replacement for a while yet.

When plugged into the ROV Pi.

I have not tried this. It shows up in “Ping Sonar Devices” as shown in the first video.
