I think I will need a better explanation or a connection drawing showing how Ping sonars are updated.
I have yet to be successful regarding the update procedure. And I have not found material here.
It cannot be updated through the tether! And have connected my PC directly to Ping with a USB cable, but it won’t be recognized or found.
Hi @diveexplorer -
Apologies for your confusion!
Updating either sonar requires a direct connection via USB adapter to your computer - how did you connect the Ping 1D to your USB port?
The documentation covers the process from there….
I did it like this. I just disconnected the USB cable that goes to the Raspberri Pi and took another USB cable and hooked it straight to the PC. The Ping Sonar cable was connected as before.
Hi @diveexplorer –
That’s correct! Apologies, I had thought you might have connected the Ping to the Pi via the serial port on the Navigator (which is supported.)
If you check your device manager (assuming you’re on windows) do you see a com port that appears when the BluART is plugged in? If so, this should be seen by PingViewer (after a minute or two) and allow you to connect and update the firmware. If not, you may need to open the unit to make sure the green light is flashing and all is well!

Ok.. I will check tomorrow when I´m back at the office.
I will follow this up with what I will find out.
Thanks Tony.
Sometimes it’s the simplest things.. Tested two different USB cables, and they both were faulty. Then the third one saw the PING1D sonar, and I managed to get the update. Just have to finish the PING360.
