Lost communication Bluerov

Hi!

I have built my own rov using Bluerov electrical components, and it is mostly working very good! But sometimes i get a loss of communication. It usually happens after diving for 1 hour. When the communication is lost, i can regain it by disconnecting and reconnecting the usb cable from the FXTI. What could be the problem here? When it first loses connection it happens alot more often, maybe every 10 minutes..

Thank you for your advise!

Hi @Walter,

Nice!

This sounds like it could be a problem with either the USB-B to USB-A cable between the FXTI and your computer, or possibly the ethernet to USB converter inside the FXTI. I’d suggest trying a different cable to see if that helps

It seems less likely, but it could also be related to some other issue with your tether and/or networking setup. You could try installing the “Tether Diagnostics” BlueOS Extension if you want to check the behaviour / performance of the tether itself - there are some interpretation instructions for its output here.

It’s also worth checking that your vehicle isn’t overheating, in which case it might be throttling the performance of the onboard computer and struggling to communicate. You can check that via the System Status icons in the BlueOS header bar. It could be an issue if you have a plastic enclosure and/or are driving the thrusters quite hard and heating up the air in the enclosure, especially if you have a lower end onboard computer that’s struggling with the processing it’s doing.

I second this recommendation. Our communication gets sketchy when the ROV gets hot.
