Flashing ESC firmware and Bidirectional DShot

Hello! I’m interested in experimenting with the Bluejay ESC firmware and was wondering if there are any roadblocks to using this on the Blue Robotics Basic ESC. One reason I’m interested in using the firmware is to use bidirectional DShot to send RPM telemetry. Is this something that seems potentially achievable? Thanks!

Hi @Fishy -
The Basic ESC and BasicESC 500 are unlikely to support other firmwares, or the ability to send RPM telemetry. Sorry for the news!

Thank you for the reply! It does look like Bluejay derives from BLHeli_S.

I’d be interested in learning more - is the Basic ESC hardware different from most other BLHeli_S ESCs? Also, I’m only somewhat familiar with how ESCs work, but it seems that RPM is something that could be derived from the same mechanism which keeps the commutation in sync - is this not the case? Or is there a limitation in enabling data output?

Thanks!

Just wanted to update - I was able to flash a version of JazzMaverick’s fork of BLHeli_S and was able to get some RPM values off of the ESC.
