Thruster direction reversible

I’m a little confused. If the thruster is reversible, why the need to change propellers?

Thanks,
Capt. Mike

I believe the general thought is that it’s better to have the increase in performance in one direction from directional props than the decreased performance in both directions from symmetrical props.

Hi @captmike,

This is so that you can have a counter-rotating pair or more if necessary. If all your thrusters are spinning the same way, the rotating moment can cause a gyroscopic action that will affect handling and maneuverability, for example a surface vessel with two thrusters pulling to one side. With counter-rotating pairs, this moment can be cancelled and there is no effect on handling.

Simply put, to counter the effect of torque.
