Tether quick connect?

Hi,

I was wondering if somebody has succesfully implemented a tether disconnect. Having the tether spool constantly connected to the ROV2 is cumbersome. Are there any water proof connectors that can be put in place a few inches behind the ROV2?

That way it would be possible to disconnect the cable once the ROV is out of the water to change store the tether away separately, or to even have an easy way to connect different tether lengths to the ROV.

Tether Quick Disconnect

Has anyone tried or used a quick disconnected waterproof fitting between the tether and BlueROV? Is there any technical reason one isn’t used more commonly, ie issues with the twisted pair transmission or similar or more a cost issue? Would be nice to be able to easily remove the tether from ROV for transport, etc.

I’ve decided to try and waterproof the electrical box. I have a waterproof ethernet pass through jack and a waterproof USB mini panel mount on the way. It looks like no one makes a waterproof rca jack anymore, and I have to pot the rivet mount points anyways (no idea how I’m getting those out) so my plan is to add a thin epoxy retention slide in divider internally, and extend the top face up and pot the balun in place at the same time. That, coupled with a large groove for rtv silicone gasket …

Tether Disconnect w/ Locking Connectors

Hi all, this is my version: I used seaconn 4 pin. Differently from Shannon I added an ethernet connector on the “deck” side of the cable. I further built an extra cable to be more easily handled during bench operations. Female ethernet connector has been installed in the Fathom x ethernate surface box. No communications issues at al. Total cost: 200 Euro [image] Davide

I used subconn 6 contact female bulkhead connector and mating micro inline connectors.
MCBH6F and MCIL6M. The bulkhead connector fits with just enough room for the clocking sleeve. I ignored two of the wires in my tether and wired the others for future expansion.

Seacon is cheaper, we had a quote for subconn that was 3-4X more.
