Really Poor Network Performance

I am seeing incredibly bad network performance. The default camera stream does not transfer smoothly, it is constantly lagging.

Thoughts?

Hi @jrooker -
Welcome to the forums!
Can you share what length and type of tether you’re using? Have you verified continuity between the opposite ends of the tether at the Fathom-X to verify you have a good connection?

This is easy to do with a multimeter. If either Fathom-X has gotten wet, it may still function but with weird performance characteristics…

Hi Tony, thanks for the help. It is the 300m tether. Neither have gotten wet. Do you have a specific OHM reading, or are we just checking for continuity? There is definitely continuity because I have comms stil…

I also wonder if it is heat related, as this morning when I powered up the ROV, the upload and download was ~25 Mbps. Still this is not a useful amount of bandwidth.

Hi @jrooker -
300m standard tether with 4 twisted pairs?
Checking continuity, and that resistance approximately matches specification:

If you don’t measure ~38-42 ohms, you may want to try a different tether pair? Sometimes a pair can be damaged in use by tight kinks or high tension, which will impact the resistance…

Yes with the 4 twisted pairs, although only a pair is used. I measured 41.1 Ohms

Experienced the same problem today. After ~1 hour of operation, the BlueROV connection dropped. ~1500 ms ping times. No upload or download times from 192.168.2.2 web wizard network tester.

Battery levels were fine
