Ping360 intensity units?

What units are the reported intensity bytes from the ping360 in? I don’t need an absolute scale, but roughly speaking is it some fraction of dB, or linear? Is the ping360 doing any kind of Sensitivity Time Control (aka Time Variable Gain) to adjust intensities as a function of range? If so, what function (e.g. 4th power)?

… the Ping360 uses a logarithmic amp as the second stage on the input. This acts like a demodulator as well as kind of applying higher gain to smaller signals, which behaves a bit like time-gain.
