Hi There!
I’m currently using a Ping360 as well as an older gen Ping1D device for my PhD research for object detection and classification. One focal point of my research is (roughly) identifying objects around the sonar using the returns along with the equation for echo level on a monostatic source to estimate the target strength (TS) to compare to its theoretical TS value.
I was able to parse out the data from the Ping360 after some open water testing this past summer, but I found that the data returns were not in the dB values needed to calculate TS, rather they were in terms of the measured voltages.
I did find in previous posts (I’ll link one here - https://discuss.bluerobotics.com/t/access-ping360-data-for-post-processing-python/10416/5?u=sharkbait28xx) that there were studies going on to calibrate the sonar and possibly get a conversion factor between the voltage measurement and a unit of intensity. Are there any updates on that or has anyone else on here done a rough calibration themselves to estimate the conversion factor?
Also following on to the last equation, is there any calibration information for the Ping1D as well?
Thanks in advance!
