Manual Control over Ping Sonar

I’m trying to use two Ping devices to experiment with some rudimentary underwater communication.

To do so I would want to manually control when the transducer emits a pulse and when it listens for a pulse to arrive.

However, taking a look at the Ping Protocol documentation, I haven’t found any message definitions which would allow me to do this. The message definitions for control of the transducer only seem to be the high level distance calculation (profile and distance).

Any guidance on achieving this using the sensors would be greatly appreciated.
