Here’s a clever idea that Craig Thorngren came up with a couple years ago. VideoRay sells this tool for $$ but I think someone could DIY for pretty cheap.

Cool. This one is meant for grabbing things that have rings or hooks on them already, correct?

Yes, but the idea could be expanded to other types of “clips”. You typically have a separate line tied to the carabiner so the tether doesn’t take any of the load when you haul up the object.
