Has anybody had experience of air travel with the Bluerov2 unit? Especially to the Maldives. I’m looking to run one in a marine support role and would really like to hear from anyone that has experienced the customs and bureaucratic paperwork.
I’m not sure whether we’ve had customers in the Maldives, but I imagine shipping regulations are somewhat distinct from air travel customs and the like.
We do have a few distributors in the surrounding regions, who may have more experience in that space?
Beyond that the best I can direct you to is the Maldives customs site. It doesn’t seem like a BlueROV2 would be disallowed, but it’s unclear to me whether it would incur duties or fees to bring in (given its value you would likely at least need to declare it).
A common travel challenge is batteries - it’s generally disallowed to travel with very high capacity ones, but you can potentially take up to two high-ish capacity ones (like our 14.8V 10Ah LiPo batteries) per person, although you’ll need to check your airline’s regulations. It’s normally necessary to at least stow away the cable ends (so they can’t accidentally get shorted out by something), store the batteries in your hand luggage, and declare them before going through security.
Thanks for the reply and information. I’ve got the batteries sorted out already, the whole unit is ready to go in a air freight box and should be good to ship at short notice.
I will endeavour to dig more with the Maldives gov and see what I can do.
