Implementing Navigator with radio control transmitter

I am looking for a way to implement radio control transceiver hardware (Futaba, etc) with the Blue Robotics Navigator. The Navigator will be at least 10 m depth so it will need a tethered cable to extend the RC antenna to the topside. Has anyone done something similar? You help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi @MGUSA

If your receiver supports SBUS, it can be connected to the Navigator as detailed here.

Do you plan to run ArduSub on your vehicle? This only recently gained support for RC input, as traditionally a data connection with high bandwidth provides an operator both a link for controller input, as well as video feedback. How do you plan to route a video signal from your subsurface system to a monitor for the user? Routing the RC radio signal along the wire may also prove challenging….

Hi Tony,

Thank you for the prompt response. I am considering ArduSub. I am hoping to find a COTS tethering hardware that has a tethering cable to transmit data and RC radio signal between the Navigator and a buoy on the surface. I know how to select individual components to do this task. But I wonder if there is a ready-made hardware for Navigator.

Hi @MGUSA -

I’m not aware of any hardware like what you’re describing, other than the default solution the BlueROV2 uses of the Fathom-X Tether interface and a Bluetooth or USB game controller… I realize this is a bit pricy compared to RC radio hardware, but considering you get high quality digital video and ample additional bandwidth for other applications, I think it’s a fair tradeoff!
