Enclosure lid thickness

Hi!

We want to machine 4" enclosure lids (aluminum) with some custom holes, 4 holes of varying sizes. Looking at the new versions of the enclosure lids, they are 10mm thickness versus the old 6mm, with the extra 4mm only protruding inwards inside the flange. Our enclosure is quite constrained in terms of its space, so we are considering going for the old 6mm thickness, but don’t want to do this is if it’s a big compromise on strength.

Any thoughts on this? Should be totally fine with 6mm, right?

Hi @UltraFred -
The thickness was increased so that we could rate the units to 950m water depth. The older plate has a reduced depth rating, but if you’re not going deep this shouldn’t be an issue!

Hi Fred, if you don’t already know about this, try this free software from Deepsea called Under Pressure for calculating wall thickness etc.
