DVL in swimming pool

How can I make the DVLA50 work in a swimming pool? When operating in the pool, all the collected data shows ‘false’. What could be the reason? It works normally at the seaside.

Hi @KaiBo -

It’s very difficult for a DVL to work in a tank or swimming pool, because the sound reflections from the sensor bounce around, and confuse things! This multi-path interference is difficult to deal with - some DVL support a tank or pool mode, that can help, but generally it’s not suited for the environment….

@KaiBo
In my case the DVL.-50, DVL-125 work fine in the tank 3m x 2.5m x 2.5m and 10m x 10m x 3m (W x H xD).

I was reading a discussion on AquaDoc Pool Equipment where someone tried using a DVL in a regular swimming pool, and it went about as messy as you’d expect. DVLs rely on clean acoustic returns, and in a pool everything just bounces around walls, floor, even the surface send echoes right back. So the device keeps losing lock or giving weird readings that don’t make sense. It’s not that the DVL is broken, it’s just the environment is way too small and reflective.
