Dead BaseStation?

Hey all,

Just had to go for a boat ride to save the Blueboat. It looks like while the Basestation is on, it’s no longer possible to connect to it. I’ve tried to connect it wirelessly and direct via USB, even across 2 other machines that could connect to that base station previously, no luck.

Base station shows full battery and on, I’ve rebooted it a few times but no luck connecting at all. This was after we’ve been using said laptop and basestation for the past week, and disconnected about halfway through a mission. Also I’m able to connect to another base station with the same settings, no issue. Should I open up the base station and see if there’s anything obviously wrong? Noticed that the o-ring isn’t seated properly so moisture could have gotten in, but it hasn’t gotten in so unlikely to be the cause.

Are there any common issues that have been identified here? Happy to try to work through it but a bit lost as nothing looks like it’s connecting to it!

Hi @Vincent -
If you’re able to reach the BlueBoat with another BaseStation, then the issue is likely internal to the one you’re having problems with, yes.
Do you hear a beep after turning the bad BaseStation on? If not, the mikrotik radio might not have power… definitely worth opening up to investigate! If the lights are on, or you find other issues, please reach out via the contact form!

Hey Tony,

Yes, the PC/Blueboat connected straight away when using another base station. I’ve opened the non-working one up and think I’ve found the issue: the power wires going to the antenna have worked themselves loose, I think the wires look like they fatigue broke due to vibration or something. Not sure this is something I can sort out on my end!

Hi @Vincent
“That ther’s yur problem!”
You can undo the ribbon connector that prevents you from sliding the plastic tray out (pop back little latch - to re-install slide in as far as it can go, and pop that latch back down flat.) , and get access to the power management PCB. From the look of it, excessive heat and perhaps a couple of poor solder joints led to the board to wire screw terminal to come free!
If you have a soldering iron you could likely re-attach quite quickly!

Excellent, I can’t solder it in the field but should be able to fix this easily when I get back. Glad it’s just a simple problem.
