Cell modem connection with external service provider

Hello,
I am going through the process of setting up the cell modem on the Blue Boat. I am using an external SIM card (not the one that comes with the modem), but am unable to establish a connection. I have set up zerotier and tested that it is working correctly, both on my PC and on the Pi, and have confirmed that I am using the APN that I am expected to use. However, I remain unable to wirelessly connect to BlueOS without the basestation. One thing I have notices is that the internet protocol in the cell modem manager extension is defaulting to only “IP” rather than “IPV4V6” as I would have expected. However, I am unable to change this in the extension.

Does anybody have ideas on what could be the issue here?

Thanks very much!
Sean

Hi @SeanMorgan -
Does the internet speed test from within Modem Manager work? This tests your connection to the internet only via the cell modem. If you configured the APN in the extension, and correctly inserted the SIM card, it should just work!
It’s worth noting that if you’re using ZeroTier, you should disconnect the Pi Wifi connection to the internet on your local network within BlueOS (assuming this is active.) ZeroTier will always work to find the shortest route between your computer and the vehicle. While it does this over the internet, if it finds the base station route, it will use this, which negates the advantage of the cellular modem, and causes a connection loss for a few minutes when you go out of range of the BaseStation as a new route is found…

Can you share screenshots of the modem manager if the issue continues? You could also verify the modem is functioning by plugging it into your computer and verifying it gives you an internet connection…
