I am having connection problems when using a mobile hotspot with zero tier. I am using the cell modem on the BlueBoat, connecting through zerotier to my PC. When my PC is connected to the wifi at my work, I have no issues and can connect to both QGC and BlueOS. However, when I use a mobile hotspot for my PC, I run into issues. I am still able to see the connection in QGC and upload mission plans etc.. but I am unable to access BlueOS. I have ensured that the only thing I am changing in the two setups is the source of internet for the PC. I have seen on ZeroTier forums that people often have issues with cell hotspots, and android in particular.
Does anybody have any thoughts or insights into this?
What IP are you trying to reach BlueOS via ZeroTier at? If you’re able to have connection in QGC, then you have connectivity to the vehicle, so it should be just a matter of using the correct ZeroTier IP for the device. This is listed as the “Managed IP? in the ZeroTier web interface, next to the BlueOS device entry. What happens when you try and reach that IP in Chrome? Can you ping it succesfully?
It can take 3-10 minutes when switching either the BlueOS or control computer internet source for ZeroTier to find the shortest connection between the two devices, and re-route traffic…
I had the same problem with my iPhone. It seems as if the phone restricts the hotspot so that VPN connections are not possible. There is a function in the iPhone called “Maximize Compatibility.” Try that. Maybe it will help. I switched to a mobile router because it provides a more stable and better connection than my phone anyway. With the mobile router it works properly.
