I have found that if I use the vacuum pump when closing battery compartment it is much easier to close the end cap. Is this ok for the battery to do this ? Is there a risk of harming the battery ?

They use 'em in space, should be fine. The flange has been pretty nice to remove/install on mine, especially with the acrylic tube, but even the aluminum goes smooth. Just need to pull the plug so the air isn’t fighting you.
