Hi there,
We use a lot of the Bar30s and I was wondering if there was a quick way to test them on the bench prior to installation in a vehicle. We used to plug them in to a circuit card and blow on them to see them respond in a range we expect, but then saw a warning about blowing on the membrane. Does anyone have a quick way to test the response of these sensors that isn’t harmful?
Hi @justin_time -
You can simply wet a finger, and lightly press on the metal outer face of the sensor - the membrane below will experience higher air pressure, and you should see depth values increase…

Hi @justin_time
Do you remember where you saw the warning against blowing on the Bar30? It should be totally fine to test this way.
If I’m doing bench tests, I install the sensor inverted in a Watertight Enclosure, so the sensing element is inside the enclosure. Then I use the hand pump to put positive pressure inside the tube, only a few PSI at most.
The pressure sensor you do have to be more cautious with is the Bar100, the face of the metal sensor can get damaged if you press on it with your finger or a tool. We’re releasing an update to the Bar100 soon that has a protective cover to fix this.
