Type II anodizing: dye and sealing method used?

Hello,

I’m interested in learning more about the surface treatment used on your product(Watertight Enclosure), which is described as having Type II anodizing.

Could you please clarify the following:

  1. Was any dye used in the anodizing process (e.g., black or other colors)?
  2. Was the anodized layer sealed? If so, what type of sealing method was used (e.g., hot water, nickel acetate, etc.)?
  3. Are there any additional surface treatments or protective coatings applied after anodizing?

I’m asking to better understand the corrosion resistance and durability of the product, especially in marine or outdoor environments.

Hi @shirakoponzu -
Welcome to the forums!

Some products are being updated in the future to a much more robust Type ||| anodizing. In the meantime:

  1. Black dye is used when anodizing
  2. The layer is not sealed
  3. No additional surface treatments are applied after anodizing.

It is fairly common for the anodizing on components to wear off with time, especially if in abrasive environments or around electric fields in the water. Doing so has not impacted the performance of the enclosures in testing.
