im trying to add a slip ring to my reel setup and when i do i get a lot of lag. Should i be using a different slip ring?

The FathomX communication modules are pretty robust with many different sliprings we’ve tested over the years. could it be damaged. High lag and very low bandwidth is a common sign that one wire of the pair is disconnected somewhere.
Here are a few places to start:
- Check continuity with a multimeter from one end all the way to the other.
- With FathomX boards disconnected from the tether wires, measure resistance between the two wires. It should be open or at least 10M Ohms.
- Check if any other wires (especially long wires in the tether) are connected to one of the communication pair of wires.
- Did the tether you’re using work before changing the slipring?
- Is there another Fathom, VDSL, or other connection in the tether?
- Are you running power down the tether? If so, try shutting it off and using a battery to power the ROV and note the bandwidth change. Some power sources interfere with the communication rather badly.
