Shore Computer Wireless Link to BlueOS

Hello,

We have a custom boat that has a Pi 4B running BlueOS and a Groove BlueBoat Router, connected via the Blue Robotics Ethernet Switch. That switch will also have the MBES and side scanning instruments connected to it.

I am looking to buy the corresponding Groove Base Station Router and Yagi Antenna. For the shore computer we would have a laptop running with the Ethernet from the Router going to the Ethernet, which would then form a link to the boat, right?

My understanding is that we would then “login” to the BlueOS on the boat from the laptop and be able to view various data including the two instances MBES and Side Scan for real-time viewing.

Are my assumptions correct? What am I missing?

Kind Regards,
Tom

Hi @tomdertech -
I’d suggest you purchase the BaseStation - as this was intended to house the Mikrotik radio that connects your computer to the BlueBoat, and power it independently for wireless access if desired. It makes that ethernet connection to your computer over USB cable, or you can connect to the WiFi network AP it creates. If for some reason you don’t want to use the BaseStation, you can setup the Mikrotik radio and power it with a POE injector (needs 12V.)

BlueOS requires no login - simply being on the same network, and goin go its IP address or blueos.local loads the interface. If your computer’s IP is configured correctly, it will receive the Mavlink messages to control and monitor the vehicle via QGround Control or Cockpit, the latter of which is starting to have much better support for BlueBoat operations! You do indeed want to run SonarView as an extension, so the sonar data is stored on your vehicle during collection and not dependent on the quality of the radio link…
