Questions about recordings in Cockpit

Hey friends!

A few questions about recordings in Cockpit:

  1. Telemetry data does not show up in my recordings. Any tips to troubleshoot?
  2. My videos automatically downloads as .webm- or .ass files. Is it possible to change this to something useful like MP4 or MKV?
  3. My videos automatically downloads into a “hidden” folder named “videos”. Any way to change the location?
  1. Telemetry is stored in the .ass file. More on how to configure it here.
  2. This is the raw recording from the browser and we currently have no conversion going on, so if needed you would have to convert it with something like Handbrake. If you can choose your video player, most of them play .webm already. We usually go for VLC or MPV.
  3. We currently have no way of changing that folder. There are button to open it in the Menu>Settings>Video as well as in the Video Library (that you can open from the video recorder mini-widget).

@Erlingns95 passing here to inform that we just released Cockpit 1.17.0 and it now records directly to an .mp4 file, so it’s always playable, even while the the recording is still going on.

To benefit from this you’ll need to use the Standalone version of Cockpit (the desktop one, that you download and install). The Web version has been renamed to Cockpit Lite, and can now only record videos - not process or replay them.

We invite you to give it a try and let us know how it goes :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
