what option exist outhere to ping around the ROV for object along the way? Not something to map the whole sea floor but more like small system we have on car bumper when we park?
Does air distance sensor be any good at small distance under water? Anyone tried that?
The issue with air distance sensors such as sr04 is that they would have to be made waterproof AND resist higher pressures underwater without leaking.
Maybe laser rangefinders could work?
I also never really tried obstacle avoidance. I assume it needs to be in a position-enabled mode, which could be an issue (you would need a dvl or at least an underwater gps).
