Hello! During a recent dive the ROV lost connection from the computer (we think we have since figured out that issue) and when we retrieved the ROV and were troubleshooting the connection, we noticed a couple of small streaks of water droplets in the electronics enclosure, however, we did not get a “leak detected” message. We have had one small leak in the last couple of months that we have since fixed, however we did not swap out any of the SOS probe tips after. I was wondering if it is concerning that the leak sensors didn’t detect the leak. Should we swap out the SOS probe tips and/or the leak sensors? Or could the leak have been too small/not in the right place for it to have been detected? Or perhaps the leak just occurred after we had lost the computer connection and therefore was not detected? Thanks in advance!
Hi @Ingrid -
You can easily check things are hooked up correctly with the leak sensor by using the included jumper plug to short the sensor, or using the end of a screwdriver between the two metal tips (after pulling it from the foam tip.) If you don’t see a warning on a connected computer, your parameters may not be configured correctly?
The foam tip does need to get wet to trigger the detection, if you’ve dried out the tips after they got wet and the sensor wasn’t triggering, I don’t see why it wouldn’t work fine when wet again! If anything, damp tips offer trigger a detection as the circuit is quite sensitive!
Once the sensor has triggered, it will continue to send the leak detected message so if you’ve lost connection with the vehicle, you would receive the message when connection was restored. I would guess those couple of drops hadn’t reached the leak sensor yet, or the probes had fallen free of the foam tips?
Thanks @tony-white for the info! It was a pretty small leak, so I’m thinking it just hadn’t reached the sensor, like you said, and/or we couldn’t get a leak notification since the computer connection was lost at some point. Thanks again!
