Is it possible to use a 7.5-LC wetlink penetrator with the Fathom ROV tether?

Hello,

I have some meters of Fathom ROV Tether and I need to prepare it so it can be used in a BlueROV. I need this with some urgency. I have all the parts except the wetlink penetrator. Basically we have in our inventory at least one Wetlink penetrator of each except for the 7.5 - HC that it is recommended for the Fathom ROV Tether.

I was checking the guide and even though the ROV Tether has a jacket diameter that would need a 7.5-LC penetrator, it uses the HC one. I asume this is because of the foam, but would it be possible to use the LC one? What are my options here?

Best regards

Hi @Alex_UJI1,

How deep do you need to go, and how many times? An under-compressed seal makes it more likely the cable could slip out of the penetrator when pulled, and you are unlikely to achieve the full 1000m depth rating that we specify for our official cable<>WLP matchups, but assuming a reasonably standard BlueROV2 you’re unlikely to be going particularly close to that depth anyway.

Our primary recommendation is of course our tested combinations, and we don’t make guarantees for cables we haven’t tested, but we do have a process for confirming that a custom cable<>WLP combo is suitably-matched, which is likely worth going through to get a sense of how problematic the difference would be.
