H6 PRO Battery Charger firmware

Hi all, I am using the H6 PRO Battery Charger, which includes the BlueROV2. Comparing the functionalities between the HOTA H6 PRO Smart Charger, I find that the one including the BlueROV2 does not have the same features, such as the battery discharge function.

Has anyone tried to load the HOTA firmware on the Blue Robotics firmware, since they are exactly the same device, and thus be able to enjoy all the features?

These functionalities are clearly shown in the following link: https://bluerobotics.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/H6-Pro-Manual-English.pdf

Cheers!
Galo

Hi @luisgalo -
You can get all the features the H6 charger offers by “unlocking” the firmware- this should only be done by those familiar with batteries as it becomes possible to charge with the wrong chemistry or settings once the restrictions are removed! The firmware the device ships with is intentionally simplified to reduce risk.

See the instructions here.

Hi @luisgalo

I’d like to also point out that the default firmware for the H6 PRO charger has a “Storage” function that does discharge a battery to 3.8V per cell.

Really it will discharge or charge depending on the battery’s voltage:

  • It will discharge if the cells are above 3.8V
  • Or it will charge if the cells are below 3.8V

In either case, it will bring the battery to the appropriate charge level for storage, which should be enough for most users.

Thank you very much for the valuable information, for the moment and since I don’t know much about bteries, I will stay with the default firmware. I think the Storage task will do the job for the moment, keeping the voltage level low (3.8Vdc). This will ensure safety when storing the batteries, if there is a risk of someone touching the battery poles by mistake.

Thank you very much, the solution you propose is sufficient for my needs, which is to maintain safe voltage levels when the batteries are not being used and are decoupled from the BlueROV2.
