What is the difference in using fathom X board on either side of the tether (connecting it to rpi using an Ethernet cable on ROV side and connecting the fathom X board to the computer using Ethernet LAN cable on the topside) and using the FXTI unit?
The advantages of the FXTI unit are:
It contains an Ethernet to USB3.0 converter with the 192.168.2.1 static IP address so you don’t have to keep changing your computers network adapter IP address every time you swap between connecting your BR2 and connecting to a network.
The USB provides power so there’s one less cable to run.
