I am thinking about buying a fathom-s board to control my DIY ROV. I am using two raspberry pi’s, one on the surface and one on the ROV. Could I use the serial port for motor control?
You could use the serial port, but you will need a logic level converter for one of the boards. One of the fathom S boards has 3.3v serial, and the other has 5v serial (not compatible with Pi without converter).
How do you plan on sending video? The Fathom-X may be a better choice.
The fathom x would be nice, if I had boatloads of cash to spend.
What tether length were you planning on using? If you were already going the RPi route with digital video, you could also use the Fathom-E Interface: https://bluerobotics.com/store/electronics/fathom-e-r1/

I need a way of sending video over a 100m distance. I am already using the Ethernet port to send messages between the two PIs using MQTT. how could I send video over the same cable?
