I’m currently in the process of rebuilding an underwater robot, and I’m planning to reuse the T200 thrusters from the old robot on the new robot. But since the body of the new robot is a bit larger than the older one, the unstriped part of the Subsea PUR cable is not long enough to reach between the penetrators and the position they are meant to be mounted.
How should I work around this? Is there a way to connect two Subsea cable outer jackets together? Can I buy new Subsea wires and take apart the motor and connect it to longer wire? Would really appreciate some suggestions. Cheers.
Yes you can splice two cables, but you have to be able to seal it. The material in this link is something that I use on almost a daily basis “hot dogging” cables for hydrostatic pressure testing at 1000 psi. You can make your own mold etc. … just use the material. Please understand it is a one shot kit so when you mix it you have about two minutes to pour it before it starts setting up very rapidly.
