Hello, I’m making an ROV using 2 T200 thrusters and 1 T500 thrusters. But I don’t need the longer cable that comes with the thrusters, so can I cut it off according to my requirement? will it affect the IP rating or waterproofness of cable?
Hi @Gofloat.Tech, welcome to the forum
Cutting the thruster cables shouldn’t affect the depth capability of the cable or thruster, because the cut end should be inside a watertight enclosure (so isn’t exposed to the water/pressure). You will need to ensure the cable is installed with an appropriate penetrator or seal, but that is always the case.
It’s worth noting that it’s much easier to handle having too much cable than too little, so if it’s not necessary to save the extra weight/volume the excess cable takes up then I’d recommend leaving it if possible, just in case it’s useful for future design iterations.
