Controlling RunCam6 via UART with a Joystick – Need Help

Hi there!
I’m trying to control a RunCam6 (start/stop recording) via UART using a joystick.
My equipment and software: Rasberry Pi4 with BlueOS 1.3.1, CubeBlack with Ardusub 4.5.3 and Cockpit app for windows.
The RunCam6 UART is connected to the TELEM2 port on the CubeBlack.
In BlueOS, I’ve set the following parameters in Autopilot Parameters:

SERIAL2_PROTOCOL - RunCam
SERIAL2_BAUD - 115200

CAM_RC_TYPE - RunCam Split Micro/RunCam with UART
CAM_RC_FEATURES - Start Recording, Stop Recording
CAM_RC_CONTROL - 2-position switch

I can’t figure out how to map the joystick button to the camera controls in the Cockpit app. I’ve tried different settings, but nothing seems to work—I must be missing something in the setup process.

Could someone explain how this linkage should work? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @GarRov, welcome to the forum

I’m not familiar with that camera, but I assume if there’s an ArduPilot driver for it then its supported features should be able to be controlled by relevant MAVLink messages.

I expect you should be able to set up Custom MAVLink Actions in Cockpit to send MAV_CMD_VIDEO_* messages as relevant. There’s a more detailed walkthrough of the general process in this thread, but feel free to follow up if something is confusing or not working as expected

Thank you for the advice! I’ll try to figure this.

@GarRov let us know how it goes. It’s always cool to see people having success with different setups in Cockpit
