I am doing a survey for a client and they require snapshots in the cockpit of my second camera, but they have just informed me that the GPS position in the snapshot sometimes differs from the GPS position in cockpit, I assumed that the GPS readings would both be exactly the same, as it was just taking a snapshot of the intended second screen.
I am using a Tritch MicroNav for my USBL and using an MNEA router to get the lat and long strings into Cockpit.
I’m a bit confused - you’re saying that when you take a snapshot of the Cockpit interface, it displays the GPS interface. Is this shown with some generic indicator widgets or how is that position captured?
And what are you comparing the snapshot with GPS position too?! Maybe sharing the images that have different GPS positions would clarify?
Also, we’ve really tried to make clear that the NMEA router is bringing the GPS information from your sensor to the ArduSub autopilot, NOT to Cockpit! Cockpit is merely showing the position the autopilot thinks it is at, which is based on the NMEA data + its own filtering.
A vehicle with a position sensor potentially sends multiple different position reports for different purposes (e.g. raw GPS data, and the autopilot’s position estimate), and that data can also be recorded and displayed in different ways.
Can you be clearer about what is being considered as “the snapshot position” vs “the Cockpit position”, as well as in what way they’re different, and to what extent?
Is the “snapshot position” from the EXIF metadata that is included with the image? Or is the snapshot a screenshot of the whole Cockpit window, and the “snapshot position” is from a widget shown in that image? Do you know which widget / tool they’re getting the “Cockpit position” from?
This is likely unhelpful without a reference of what they’re being compared to.
I received the information from my client today, and it was not related to snapshots of the cockpit but related to the GPS lat and long location changing when they were using the Picture metadata and were extracting the data with exiftool, I will contact my Micropnav supplier to see if they are able to explain why the GPS lat and long is not constant and changing location by 1000 mile (“Malta to France”)
I apologize for my incorrect post , as I was reacting as quick as I could to my clients’ concerns before seeing the evidence.
