Blue ROV on Public Safety Diver Hull Search

From June 16th to 23rd, IANTD instructors
from the São Paulo Police COE (Special
Commands and Operations) conducted
PSD, Hull Search, and ROV Operator
courses at the Almirante Castro Alves
Submarine Base, part of the Brazilian Navy.
The COE police diving team, which
specializes in scanning ship hulls, has been
operating in this area since 2014, achieving
numerous seizures at the Ports of Santos
and São Sebastião. The team is considered
one of the best prepared and equipped in
Brazil, trained and certified according to
IANTD standards.
On September 24th, the COE team used
an Blue ROV to identify five parasites containing
cocaine paste on the hull of a Chinese ship
in the Port of Santos, São Paulo. The ship
was bound for Spain. Following the ROV’s
discovery, divers conducted an operation
to recover the criminal cargo, which
totaled 114 kg of cocaine paste, valued
at approximately US$5.7 million at the
destination port.
The diving operation was highly complex,
taking place in contaminated waters
with low visibility and within a confined
environment, lacking direct surface access.
IANTD is proud to have trained and
certified the COE police divers involved in
this operation.

Please forgive my ignorance, but what does IANTD have to do with ROVs?

FEMA releases resources to law enforcement agencies in accordance with these agencies’ certification, equipment, and training in this manner. IANTD has a complete program for Public Safety Diving, with numerous specialization courses, including ROV Operator. This course is not limited to piloting, but also the correct collection of criminal evidence and underwater search operations
