Beyond Dead Reckoning: The Omnitrack

Why settle for dead reckoning when you can have absolute positioning? Omnitrack combines ROV Locator USBL technology with a dual-GNSS surface module to continuously correct navigation drift and provide reliable, globally referenced vehicle position during extended underwater operations. And NOW, at just $8,990, it costs about the same as many third-party DVL offerings.

From the title I really wanted this to be some kind of ROV monorail track…

That said, this is pretty neat, is this essentially an out-of the box was to georeference an ROVs position? I know companies that have spent substantially more to have that kind of capability. Does it actually track the ROVs position with 6DoF or is it just tracking separation of the transmitter and receiver and combining that with other data such as headings?

The topside unit tracks itself in 6DOF and uses that reference plus measured bearing and range to the ROV (also ROV pressure-based depth in compatible ROVs such as the BlueROV) to provide a 3DOF georeferenced position of the ROV.
