Bathymetric survey issue: data loss when radio link drops

I have observed during bathymetric surveys that as soon as the boat loses radio connection with the ground base, the echo sounder recording also stops.

As a result, we do not obtain data in areas outside the radio signal coverage.

We would like to know whether it is possible to configure the echo sounder so that it continues recording even when the radio signal is lost.

It is possible to continue recording if you are using SonarView hosted on BlueOS.

Hi @leandre, welcome to the forum

It is only possible to record the data you have access to, so software running on your control station computer (like Ping Viewer) can only record data while there’s a connection to the vehicle.

To record regardless of the vehicle’s connection to the control station you’ll likely want to record onboard the vehicle, using one of the relevant BlueOS Extensions (including Ping Survey, SonarView, or Ping Viewer Next).

If you have reason to be concerned about losing the vehicle, and accordingly losing the data stored on it, you can also use one of the various range extending technologies like improved/directional antennas, connecting a cellular modem (if you tend to operate near civilisation, within cell tower range), or connecting a satellite system (like starlink).
