I wanted to ask if the temperature range 2 to 40C applies only to the temperature sensor part and not the pressure part of the sensor since I intend to use the sensor in a glacier lake.

The temperature reading is used for compensation in the pressure reading, so if it applies to temperature then it also applies to pressure.

That said, having just looked at the sensor datasheet it doesn’t actually mention a specific operating temperature range for in water use, so I’ve asked internally to try to find out where that’s from. It’s possible that’s supposed to be the higher accuracy region specified in the datasheet, in which case it may work fine in colder temperatures but just have the lower accuracy specified in the datasheet.

I don’t yet have a definitive response, although one of our R&D engineers suggested that the stated ranges might just be what we’ve validated the sensors to. I’ve brought it up again and will hopefully have a more concrete response soon

We haven’t tested the Bar30 (or Bar02) to the sensor’s temperature extremes at pressure, so [you] would need to try at your own risk.

I would avoid freezing the sensor in water as it might damage the assembly (e.g. I’m not sure what will happen when water is frozen in the o-ring glands - it might cause the design to fail when the ice expands).

I think we have had customers use the sensor in [liquid water in] freezing temperatures, so that might be ok.

I’m unsure whether @Marruger was using a Bar30 or Bar100 in their antarctic testing, but this (and the rest of their notes) may be worth a read:

Anyone operating in sub-zero conditions can take note that I would often store the unit in the water turned on, rather than on the ice as it was warmer (-2 compared to -20 C). I only had one situation with frozen props on a battery change, which freed themselves in short order once in the water. Each time I lifted the unit out of the water I would tilt it around to drain water from the props, and this worked fine. I had no issues with condensation and did nothing other than putting new desiccant bags in once prior to the trip.
