Add 4G LTE Connectivity with the BlueBoat Cellular Modem Kit

Hi folks,

The BlueBoat Cellular Modem Kit is an easy way to add global 4G LTE connectivity for your BlueBoat.

Just like your cell phone, the modem connects to mobile networks using 4G LTE, so the BlueBoat can stay connected anywhere with cellular coverage, enabling long-range communication beyond the reach of the BaseStation.

We’ve also included a Hologram global SIM card with every kit to help get connected quickly. Hologram is a cellular provider that simplifies global coverage by partnering with hundreds of carriers. Of course, you’re free to use your preferred cellular provider as well.

The Cellular Modem Kit is available now. Check out the product page and installation guide for all the information.

Hi,

Do you have an idea of the power consumption of the modem as compared to the mikrotik radio ?

Hi @renanm -
The unit definitely consumes less than 5 watts (as it is powered by USB port), vs. the Mikrotik peak power of ~8 watts. Generally, the unit uses less than a watt of power, but may use a few watts when moving data at peak rates.

Hello,

What is the standard protocol the modem is using? IPV4 or IPV6? Is it possible to change the protocol?

Best regards, Otto

Hi @OttoGeometius,

BlueOS does not currently support IPv6, so if you have a working cellular modem setup then it will be using IPv4.

It will not be possible to change protocols unless/until IPv6 support is available.
