Water intrusion through along cable, through penetrator?

The use of the WetLink penetrator has the fluoro seal squeezing around the jacket at the end of the cable. Is that really tight enough to prevent water from moving along the length of the cable between the cable jacket and the wires, passing through the bulkhead and entering the enclosure? Does one need to pot the free end of the cable or is the assumption that the cable jacket under pressure just conforms tightly enough against the wire insulation to effect a seal?

Hello Kansas,
From my experience, I strongly advise you to seal the free ends of your cables… the penetrator cannot guarantee that water will not seep into the sheath!
I always carefully monitor the sheaths of all cables to detect cracks… I already had this type of problem on the robotic arm cable and following a 0.1 mm crack!

Thanks, Manta. It looks like their tethers are water blocked, but their cables for thrusters, etc are not. That would have been an expensive mistake.
