We have a BlueROV2 Heavy. Its been upgraded from a pixhawk to a navigator and with aluminium housings. Our compass is completely unreliable! Despite calibrating at the start of missions, it drifts erratically. No use at all when piloting and makes autonomous flying when combined with a Waterlinked DVL impossible.
Does anyone have any suggestions, a compass that can be trusted is pretty vital!? I’ve read in other posts trying to clear high current wires from around the flight controller helps? Could it be the metal housing? Has anyone managed to fit an external compass?
Your compass may be fine- the gyro calibration could be causing your issue! Let the ROV “warm up” on the bench, and navigate to the BlueOS vehicle setup, configure, gyro calibration. Make sure it’s not moving, and calibrate- if the offsets then make the output values 0 you should see better performance…
Please share a .BIN log from a dive where you were having issues. You can find these under autopilot logs in BlueOS. We’ll be able to dig into what might be the issue from there!
