Just chiming in on this thread. I see no-one has posted for a while. BlueROV team: are you anywhere nearer to providing a quick disconnect solution or do we still need to go with a DIY option? Would you endorse any of the suggestions provided in the above thread over another? Many thanks!
Any updatew on this from blueroboitcs for quick disconnect solution?
If you are able to terminate your own tether, these guys manufacture bulkhead connectors that have worked well for us.
Any updates on a tether disconnect? Thats probably my biggest change I would make. Having the ROV permanently connected to 1000 ft of tether is a pain when transporting. A quick disconnect would be so much better!
As is clear from this thread’s history, this has been a longstanding request, and is definitely a useful functionality.
I can’t provide a timeline at this stage, but we are actively working on development and testing of connectors at the moment, and the tether is one of the first candidates for connectorisation
We’ve been using Suburban Marine Baromax for the tether disconnect (washdown) and Cobalt connectors for ethernet / signal (keep dry). Expensive as you say… But works well.
We are using the Blue Trail Engineering connectors. Great quality. Doing the cable termination process is a little tricky but having a tether that can easily disconnect is VERY nice!
I use Blue Trail Cobalt connectors. Works great.
I find them my solution.
Someone on homebuiltrovs.com (I think) posted a build of a disconnect made from ABS plumbing parts, compression fit. I found it worked best when assembled submerged in a pan of mineral oil, so the water cannot force itself into an empty cavity. Same thing I fill my servos with, to prevent water ingress.
