Running Multiple BlueBoats Nearby — Interference?

Hi everyone,

I had a question about scaling up operations with multiple BlueBoats.

Is it possible to operate a small fleet of BlueBoats, each with its own separate base station, in relatively close proximity? For example, deploying two or more boats in the same area (within a few hundred meters).

I’m mainly wondering:

  • Will the base stations or vehicles interfere with each other?

  • Are there specific frequency/channel settings that need to be adjusted to avoid cross-talk?

  • Has anyone successfully run multiple systems simultaneously in the field?

Any advice or best practices would be really helpful. Thanks in advance!

Hi @tamucc_icon -

Welcome to the forums!

It is definitely possible to operate multiple BlueBoats in an area, however I would recommend against using multiple BaseStations. Better to have one WiFi AP, and multiple clients! Because BaseStations have the same AP name, to run multiple of them would require more setup.

To run even with one BaseStation does require modification of standard settings - one BlueBoat can stay at the default address, but the others will need both their onboard radio IP, BlueOS IP, and ArduRover vehicle ID changed. See this document, that we used to setup BlueBoats for our color hull launch video!
