Loctite Marine - batch issues

Hi - has anybody else encountered issues with some Loctite Marine Epoxy batches? We are in the UK so buy from JB-Tools in US, and in our most recent order have found 50 % of 30 syringes have lumpy hardener, which is difficult to remove and almost appears like it has seperated. What’s more - once cured it is tacky. Please find two videos here - OK, and DODGY showing the difference between the two.

Are we alone in encountering this issue? I cannot see a use by date on either the syringe or outer packaging.

Hi @olitills -

That definitely looks like a bad batch! Blue Robotics has moved away from epoxy in every way it can, and does not use that Loctite Marine Epoxy any longer, for anything! I hope you’re able to follow up with your supplier and resolve the issue…. best of luck!

Thanks @tony-white - this is good to know.

What epoxy do BR now use?

Unfortunately we are limited on this component to needing an epoxy solution.

Hi @olitills -

I believe B45-TH is what is used currently, but only for thruster/motor sealing of the junction between cable and stator wires.

This looks like impressive stuff. Reltek use this in their PTFE bonding kit too
