The Expanded WetLink Penetrator Product Line!

Originally published at: The Expanded WetLink Penetrator Product Line! - Blue Robotics

Hello, friends! Today we’re excited to release even more sizes of the WetLink Penetrator (WLP) into the wild!

The WetLink Penetrator (WLP) is our patent-pending, next-generation solution for low-cost, high pressure, high reliability sealing of electrical cables as they pass into enclosures or other devices. It’s rated to a depth of 950 meters (3,116 feet) and compared to other subsea connectors or penetrators, the WetLink Penetrator is a fraction of the cost while offering validated reliability that you can count on. It’s easy to assemble and doesn’t use any adhesives or potting!

We announced the first size of the WLP, the 6.5mm size, back in June, and the 4.5mm size back in October. Starting today, we have sizes that are suitable for cables ranging from 3.7mm jacket diameter all the way up to 9.8mm jacket diameter!

The bulkheads come in nominal sizes of 4.5, 5.5, 6.5, 7.5, 8.5, and 9.5 mm. For each of those, there’s an option for a low compression and a high compression plug. The low compression plug works at the nominal diameter +/- 0.3mm. For example, with the 6.5 mm bulkhead with a low compression plug, we can use that on a cable ranging from 6.2 mm up to 6.8 mm. When we use the high compression plug, it bumps down the nominal diameter by half of a millimeter. In this example, that makes the nominal diameter 6.0 mm, and we can use it on cable diameters from 5.7 to 6.3 mm.

One of our favorite things about this release is the compatibility with a bunch of off-the-shelf cables. Since we didn’t have cables for all of the sizes in our own product line to test with, we used some from Igus and some from LAPP, and we’ve listed those in this table that can be found directly on the product page. Of course, you can also use your own cables and if you do so, we just recommend testing some samples first to make sure it’s a good fit!

Along with a new guide on how to choose the WetLink Penetrator, we’ve made updates to our WLP Assembly guide and Cable Stripping guide!

We’ve spent most of 2020 and 2021 designing, testing, integrating, and now implementing the WetLink family of products into our product line. We are very eager to see how you use them!
